Lilac Fest, brought to you by The 4th Street Festival Society, is Calgary’s much anticipated summer kick-off event brought to you by the Calgary Multicultural Arts Society. It’s family friendly, free, full of musical talent, artisan vendors, entertainment, and local businesses sharing with the community.
Challenge
Without proper waste diversion infrastructure along 4th Street SW, we needed to provide the means to collect waste for 120,000+ attendees.
Towards Zero Waste
With Lilac Fest’s can-do attitude towards waste reduction and community engagement, Green Event Services was able to bring our best waste diversion practices. The collaborative effort to ensure continued improvements in food ware, we are on a steady path towards zero waste success. We jumped from 55 per cent diversion in 2015 to 78 per cent diversion in 2016. This positive environmental impact wouldn’t be possible without the full integration and support of Lilac Fest’s Environmental Initiative.
